We named our son after the second of the Pandava brothers - a warrior of great might in Hindu Mythology. If a stranger had to describe our 2-year-old, they would probably compare him to a Jumping Jack - he loves jumping from one place to another, almost like he is always in a hurry to get somewhere. But for us, he is Bhima, the naughty one.
We had been missing out on the signs for some time. He would be in a state of severe exhaustion after a little game of Catch and Cook or we would randomly notice unexplained red marks turn up on his body.
We live in a village in Mahabubnagar District which is located in Telangana. My wife and I work as agricultural labourers and even though we don’t make much, God has never given us any reason to complain. Bhima is our first and only child. So when he started vomiting uncontrollably, and his fever would heat up his favourite blanket, we were very worried.
After changing multiple hospitals, Bhima was rushed to the Little Stars Children’s Hospital in Hyderabad. It turned out that the red marks on his body weren’t scars attained while playing but major indicators of acute liver damage. Bhima was diagnosed with Dengue Hemorrhagic Syndrome with multiple organ failure. His heart was severely affected too.
We have already borrowed Rs. 3 Lakhs from our relatives and lost track of our savings. Bhima has been in the PICU since the last 4 days on Life saving Respiratory Support. He needs multiple blood transfusions and has various pumps attached to his body to support his weak heart. To continue this treatment, which is the only thing keeping him alive right now, we will need to arrange Rs.10 Lakhs.
We are asking you to contribute to our son’s treatment so that he can get better. He is named after a mighty warrior and he will fight his way out of this, he just needs to know that we are fighting for him too.
