Story

The flood report of Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) issued on the evening of 15 August stated that about 33.3 lakh people in 3,186 villages/localities were affected by the deluge. River embankments gave way in many places, affecting humans, cattle and crop alike.

Still, there is no news on how many deaf children affected by flood in Assam.

It is a known fact that human trafficking peaks during disasters, wartime and conflict. The most vulnerable group during those times are children. The vulnerability is amplified exponentially when the child has a hearing disability. For instance, a deaf child may never be able to speak about his/her ordeals to social workers or law enforcement authorities.

Vaani is trying to reach to deaf children through combined communication mode in flood-affected areas in Assam and help them to reach a safe place. Vaani is also aiming to distribute relief materials.

Vaani is responding to Assam floods: In Kamrup ( Guwahati), Nagoan and Nalbari and Sonitpur. Our team is supporting communities with relief material and helping deaf children to come out from flood and reach to safe locations.
