The Corona virus pandemic has upturned our lives. As of April 12, there have been 8,504 Coronavirus cases resulting in 289 deaths. The increasing numbers mean that more and more doctors, nurses and patients are fighting the direct and dreary consequences of Covid-19.
Being an easily transmittable disease, the Coronavirus has made warzones of our hospitals. It has simultaneously ravaged our public healthcare system and created an atmosphere of fear and despair.
Two week ago, Reuters reported that some of our healthcare workers are treating Covid-19 patients wearing raincoats and motorbike helmets due to a heavy shortage of PPE kits. This has led to many of our doctors, nurses and medical staff testing positive for Covid-19 and unwittingly become the carriers of the virus.
Our frontline soldiers can’t save us without their armour
ImpactGuru has come up with an initiative to raise funds for critical medical supplies for all our healthcare workers.
A standard PPE kit costs in the range of INR 1000 - 1500 and can be used only once. At most hospitals, usually the doctors and staff either do 6 hour shifts or 8 hour shifts with 1 change. So effectively each kit lasts for 4-6 hours. ImpactGuru is endeavouring to get the unit prices of PPEs as low as possible with the help of ACT. A standard PPE kit contains N95 mask, disposable safety gloves, head cover, safety goggles, shoe covers and coveralls.
A donation of INR 1,250 / US$17 will help procure 1 PPE Kit for doctors and healthcare workers.
A donation of INR 5,000 / US$67 will help procure 4 PPE Kits for doctors and healthcare workers.
A donation of INR 10,000 / $133 will help procure 8 PPE Kits for doctors and healthcare workers.
A donation of INR 1,00,000 / $1,333 will help procure 80 PPE Kits for doctors and healthcare workers.
The funds raised will be directly transferred to the suppliers of PPE kits who will provide them to the various public and private hospitals across India. Our combined efforts will prioritize help towards those hospitals that either already have dedicated Covid-19 designated facilities or have assigned beds specifically for treatment of Covid 19 patients. The suppliers for PPE will vary depending on location including but not limited to those who have received grants by ACT team.
Without PPE kits, doctors cannot go on for much longer
At a time when more and more people are getting tested and doctors are isolating themselves from their families to work overtime in an extremely distressing environment - it falls on us to not only applaud their efforts but also back them up. Each donation from you is an act of promise. A promise that says, “We have your back and we will fight this together.”
