My name is Soumya Chakraborty. I am 40 years old and live in Kolkata, West Bengal. Today, I am reaching out not just with words, but with a heart full of desperation and hope. I am undergoing treatment at the Institute of Neurosciences, Kolkata. The doctors are guiding me through recovery, but the costs are now far beyond what I can manage on my own.
2 and a half years ago, my life changed completely. What followed has been a constant battle against pain, immobility, and uncertainty. I was diagnosed with Spinal Cord Injury in 2023 at Fortis Hospital, Kolkata, and later with Ankylosing Spondylitis in 2024 at the Institute of Neurosciences. Together, these conditions have slowly taken away my ability to live a normal life. The pain is relentless. Each day feels like a struggle, but I refuse to give up. 🙏

There was a time when my days were filled with freedom and movement. I loved exploring new places, riding through Leh Ladakh, Manali, Darjeeling, Meghalaya, and moving across cities like Kolkata, Bangalore, Jaipur, and New Delhi for work and travel. Every journey gave me life. Today, even sitting, standing, bathing, or sleeping has become a challenge. Morning stiffness, constant back and joint pain, and fatigue have left me dependent on a wheelchair and regular support.
My treatment now requires 2 physiotherapy sessions every single day to slowly regain movement, along with monthly biologic injections that keep my condition from worsening. The doctor has clearly advised that these treatments must not be interrupted, as any delay can cause rapid worsening and even permanent loss of mobility.
So far, I have managed my treatment by exhausting everything I had. Over the last two and a half years, all savings, fixed deposits, mutual funds, and even family jewellery have been sold to cover medical bills. I live with my 70-year-old mother in Berhampore, Murshidabad. We have no other family support and no income left to depend on.

A little about me beyond my illness: 2 and a half years ago, I built something very close to my heart: my gaming startup, GamoteX. It was recognised with honours such as Top Gaming for 2022 by Silicon India, Top 5 Startup by the British Deputy High Commission, Top 5 in Gaming and Animation by CII, and Emerging Company by the Indian Achievers Forum. Unfortunately, due to my failing health and overwhelming medical costs, I had to shut it down. Still, I hold on to the dream of regaining my independence, rebuilding my career, this time in AI and fintech and supporting my mother.

আড়াই বছর আগে, আমার জীবন সম্পূর্ণরূপে বদলে গেল। এরপর ব্যথা, অচলতা এবং অনিশ্চয়তার সাথে অবিরাম লড়াই শুরু হয়। ২০২৩ সালে কলকাতার ফোর্টিস হাসপাতালে আমার স্পাইনাল কর্ড ইনজুরি ধরা পড়ে এবং পরে ২০২৪ সালে ইনস্টিটিউট অফ নিউরোসায়েন্সেসে আমার অ্যাঙ্কাইলোজিং স্পন্ডিলাইটিস ধরা পড়ে। একসাথে, এই অবস্থাগুলি ধীরে ধীরে আমার স্বাভাবিক জীবনযাপনের ক্ষমতা কেড়ে নিয়েছে। ব্যথা অসহনীয়। প্রতিদিনই একটা সংগ্রামের মতো মনে হয়, কিন্তু আমি হাল ছাড়তে রাজি নই। 🙏
