The yoga and Meditation program leads to ‘The Way to Happiness’ is perhaps the greatest tool in reforming the convicted people despite their caste, creed, religion and other affinities. The transformational journey provides a better outlook of life and a means to better understand how the people want to treat and be treated themselves.
Team started a Yoga and Meditation Campaign (since 2015) for the prison inmates to provide a new opening in their lives. Specific Yogic Kriyas were envisioned to provide various benefits including improved ability to override impulse, better mood in general, lesser depression and negative thoughts, and hence better staff/inmate relationships.
- It includes -
- Various decriminalization activities and programs
- Enhancing the skill sets with advanced courses for the potential teachers in yoga, meditation, naturopathy etc.
- Various activities for social and economic integration of inmates
RUPANTARAN YATRA: Transformational Journey
One of the key essential activities- a 14 day pilgrimage tour has been planned from Mid-May 2017 for the select 25 inmates. During the tour, inmates will be exposed to spiritual discourse, Hindu rituals such as Mundan, Upnayansanskar, RudraAbhishek, Yagna, Holi dip in Ganges etc.
Satsang, Bhajan/Kirtan, Yoga, Meditation, participation in Langar(Kitchen), Gurukul lifestyle, etc. will also be used to help transform their personalities.
Second time in the history of Prison Reforms such an initiative will be taken. The objective of the program was to bring positive change in the lives of inmates through spiritual sermons, religious ceremonies, Yoga, meditation.
Especially in external and peaceful environment, in holy abode, far away from the jail complex - the initiative has brought dramatic changes in concerned inmates lives, which help them to become a better person and make it easier for them to resettle in the society, post their release from prison.
RupantaranYatra -I was held in September 2016.In RupantaranYatra-I, 18 life time prisonerswere taken to Haridwar only for 14 days. Life time prisonersare those who were sentenced 10to 14 years in jail. These prisoners had not availed any of their Parole’or Furlough because all of their friends, relatives and families had deserted them. They were totally cut off from society and social relations.
RupantaranYatra-II will be held in July 2017. In RupantaranYatra-II, 25 highly educated and highly skilled prisoners have been selected as group leaders for Dominos effect. These prisoners are having skeptical attitude towards life. In this RupantaranYatra we are trying to change their revengeful attitude, anger and sadness which are embedded in their heart and positively channelize their skills set towards betterment of others, at large.
Support is needed for various activities as shown below to decrime society, stopping repeat crimes, and supporting the ideology of HATING CRIMES BUT NOT CRIMINALS.
