ABOUT BLIND WELFARE COUNCIL
Blind Welfare Council is working in the most backward part of Dahod-Panchmahal Districts of Gujarat state. The people living in this area are poor, illiterate and belong to tribal casts (adivasis). We work for all categories of disabled, like Visual Impairement (V.I). Hearing Impairment (H.I) Mental Retardation (M.R) Loco-motor disability (Orthopedically Handicapped) and all other associated disabilities.
There about 100 children with mental retardation and multiple disabilities in Dahod and its surrounding area. Proper training in activities of daily living and pre primary or primary academics can bring a lot of change in their life.
Since 2003 we are running this day care centre and about 200 children with these disabilities are trained at our centre. They have been trained for activities of daily living along with primary education.
Many of the students have gone for vocational training and about 10 students have started earning their living. We have brought all of them in the main life stream. Earlier they were not accepted by the society. But by lot of counselling and hard work, the parents and society have accepted them and they are the inseparable part of the society.
