We are raising funds for Dr L Subrmaniam Foundation, a Registered Charitable Trust, started by the vision of violin icon Dr. L. Subramaniam and vocal legend KavitaKrishnamurti Subramaniam.
It is our ideology that all children in the society are equally entitled to a cultural experience through music. Our flagship SaPa in Schools program provides high quality music education to under-privileged students with weekly, yearlong music classes at no cost. We provide music teachers, a music room, instruments, workshops, certifications and guidance for schools to sustain the program.
The benefits of arts education for children are very real, from music for its own sake, to community building, increasing the IQ of students and helping build peace and tolerance. However, the lack of a supporting ecosystem results in the marginalization of music, especially traditional forms. Furthermore, in many schools underprivileged children cannot afford the fee for music classes.
The SaPa in Schools project has made high quality music accessible to children irrespective of economic background. We currently work with 15,000 children, and are creating an ecosystem where we train teachers, prepare learning materials, methodologies and syllabi to bring about high quality classroom experiences. The minimum cost of the Sapa in Schools program for a an entire school of 300 students catering to the age group 3-16 years is 3,50,000 Rupees.
Quality music education ensures that a child receives well-rounded holistic education. Students demonstrate personal, academic, and creative growth, and the arts and culture are fostered in the community. In addition to teaching music, and preserving rich global cultural heritage, the movement also builds competence, creates employability, and empowers women as educators. This project can help create the next generation of musicians and music educators.
Help children experience the joy of music. Please donate and share.
We are grateful for your help!
