Based in Delhi, Maitri has a strong focus on helping the poorest of the poor in terms of education, employable skills, safety and social equity. One of our projects based in Delhi and working with five slum communities is Reduce Gender-based Violence (GBV) in Urban Communities. We would like to end violence especially against women and adolescent girls in the target communities by two-way approach: One, reduce their vulnerabilities, two, equip and empower them. In next few years we would like to see following changes in the target communities:

-Delay early/child marriages

-Prevent Child labor by ensuring children stay school and do not drop out

-Stop discrimination in nourishing food among girls and boys

-Community at large is much more aware about gender equality, sexual harassment, and domestic violence which will be achieved through workshops, training, open dialogues and street plays.

-Women are skilled and are able to finds jobs to become financially independent

-Women are empowered to speak and have a collective voice against atrocities committed against them.

-Adolescent girls are aware about menstrual health and hygiene and they are not ashamed of the stigma attached to it.
