Story

Hi,

Sanjeevani Foundation is a secular, non-political, non-government, non-profitable, registered organization under Societies Registration Act (xxi of 1860). It comprises of professionally qualified, social workers from different walks of life, educated locals, having real interest and commitment to serve the people without any discrimination on the basis of caste, religion or language. The vision is good of all mankind irrespective of caste, creed or religion for a healthy & human society.

Sanjeevani Foundation works for the development of various marginalized group of society

 (1) by organising free medical camps in socioeconomically weaker areas of city and far flung rural areas for screening , management and prevention of cancer and other non communicable diseases   ,

(2) by creating health awareness regarding harmful effects of use of Tobaccos, Alcohol and drugs by means of pamphlets ,

 (3) by providing financial help in treatment of poor patients,

(4) by organization health talks at various levels.

Punjab's Malwa area has the dubious reputation of being the cancer capital of the region with heavy metal toxicity in groundwater that is taking a toll on the health of the people living in the state.

As many as 33,318 people have lost their lives to the deadly disease in the last five years and there are a total of 5,877 registered cancer patients in the state. The average cancer prevalence is 216 cancer patients per one lakh population in areas like Bathinda, primarily due to the high presence of traces of toxic metals like uranium, lead, and cadmium in water.

About 70 to 100 cancer patients are going daily by train to Bikaner from Bathinda for free treatment and cheap medicines in the Acharya Tulsi Regional Cancer Trust. These patients are mostly farmers from the southern districts of the state, including Bathinda, Faridkot, Moga, Muktsar, Ferozepur, Sangrur and Mansa.  A recent study conducted by Punjab Technical University, Micro Trace Minerals laboratory in Germany and a local NGO in  Malwa area has found that elements like aluminum, barium, manganese, strontium and uranium are well above the reference range and uranium was found to be very high at 2.3 mg/gram, above the set 0.1 mg/g.

Government has been  taking  a string of measures from time to time  for curbing the increasing menace of cancer in the Malwa belt . But if these welfare measures had been sufficient, then there would have been a let up in the increasing number of cancer patients boarding the 'Cancer Train' to Bikaner. That has not happened. The figures of increasing cancer cases being reported point to some bottlenecks that have stopped preventive measures and welfare schemes from reaching the target population.

Health awareness , proper and early diagnosis through screening and thence proper guidance regarding the management are three major steps to combat the spread of deadly cancer  effectively .

Health awareness can help in prevention and early diagnosiss of this disease. Timely diagnosis  in case of cancer  has shown promising results. Treatment of Cancer  is highly expensive . Since a lot many patients can not afford cancer  , still less regular follow up treatment from private hospitals, the organization proposes to launch an initiative of  health awareness for prevention and early diagnosis .

Our  NGO would provide  healthcare at the doorstep of the vulnerable group of people via a dedicated mobile medical team which would include various specialist like  medical specialist , gynaecologist or surgeon and two paramedical staff.

In addition to general body check up  & gynae check up in female patients , Haemoglobin , blood sugar and ECG would be done by mobile medical team . In female patients with suspicious cervix PAP smear would be prepared . All suspected cases of cancer  will be referred to Bathinda where  organization staff will arrange for advanced investigation ,  treatment and follow up of such cases at various designated hospitals which would offer treatment at very  subsidised rates . The organization would have regular follow up and guide such cases for treatment and rehabilitation..

Project Implementation Strategy:

Identify the most convenient cancer  screening medical clinic sites from patients view point with the active help and cooperation of the people inhabiting the slums, resettlement colonies and far flung rural area.

Prepare schedule of visits with dates & times for each visits by mobile medical team.

Organize meeting with the community representatives and other members of the community & self support for mobilising maximum number of visitors to the mobile medical clinic.

Organize   mobile medical clinic  at identified sites.

Conduct lab investigation of the patients refered  by mobile medical team  and other directly coming to the lab at no profit no loss basis.

Hand over report to patients screened in the  mobile medical clinics, explain to them the prescribed line of treatment and importance of consuming prescribed medicine.

Document all reports and maintain other records of the mobile medical clinic and centralised clinical lab.

We are greatful for your help !
