My wife Rina is the strongest person I know, she teaches our family the values of discipline, strength and courage in the face of any storm that life throws at us. Now, we watch her battle with the strength that is admirable. But all I think about is seeing her laughter again. I want Rina to be alright.
What troubles my wife?
Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is a fast-growing cancer of the white blood cells called lymphocytes. It occurs when the bone marrow produces too many immature, cancerous lymphocytes, called lymphoblasts.
I stay up wondering and asking myself, “When will the time come that I get to see my wife healthy and happy?” I asked her doctors at Tata Medical Centre in Kolkata about the next steps and they said, “The duration of her treatment has to be at least a year.”
What is the treatment required?
My wife needs chemotherapy and supportive care.
“Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is primarily treated with chemotherapy, often in three phases: induction, consolidation, and maintenance. Chemotherapy for ALL aims to induce remission (eliminate cancer cells) and prevent relapse,” said the doctor.
