"My father went to work and never returned"

"That night still haunts me.When I saw my dad butchered to death before my own eyes.It was terrifying, to live in the constant fear of imminent claws of death. Even the memory of it throws me back to a dark time in my own life, a time of helplessness and fear."

They lost their home, their familiarity of daily life. They lost their occupation, their only way to have a strong foot in the world that has always been cruel to them. They lost their language, losing their naturalness of reactions, the simplicity of gestures, the unaffected expression of feeling. This is not an orchestrated story but life of a migrant – or a refugee – in our time, a life that must be valued and a story that must be heard.

Refugees are people who leave their homes in order to seek safety, or refuge.People become refugees to flee violence, economic disparity, repression, natural disasters, and other harsh living and working conditions

"Even though we are living in slums but for us, it’s more of a blessing from Him”

For those flocking to India, the hope is none. The absence of government support makes this vulnerable community, even more susceptible, with the absence of basic human rights and most of all absence of humanity from us. Our conscience is pricking us. There is much more human hardship than we can ever imagine but we don’t like being reminded of its existence.

"I faced death so near when militants held me at the gun point. But now, I wish that militant had taken the shot on me. Why can't this land of diversity accept us?"

Our apathy and insensitivity should not write the darkest chapter of human history .It is our time to represent 22 million stories waiting to be told. It's our time bring light and hope.

"I wanted my son to become a pilot. All our dreams have been crushed"

Primary enrolment rates of refugees stand at just 61%, compared with 95% globally.

This leaves a gruelling gap. With little or no education, refugees are trapped in a vicious cycle of poverty and are thus drawn towards anti-social activities.

“Rag picking is now our daily bread and roof over our head”

Refugees are left to fend for themselves, with no identity cards issued by

The Indian government, it's impossible for them to access government services.

“I myself being educated am unable to teach my own children”

Pertaining to primary education and healthcare, there is a lack of a sustainable model that prevents refugee children from getting the best of education.

Who we are?

Enactus is an international student run NPO, spread across 36 countries with over 144 local chapters in India. Enactus DCAC is one of the local chapters & among the leading ones across the country.

Started on the 1st of January, 2013, we have undertaken & sustained 4 projects, impacting more than a million lives and generating an income worth Rs. 8 crore in just 5 years of our inception. Enactus DCAC overcame the barriers of resistance and ended the separation of Corporate, Governments and NGOs. Collaboration exploded, help emerged and the whirlpool of togetherness led to the successful launch of two projects- Project Adhikaar and Project Kaushal which were aimed creating a sustainable business model keeping in mind the social economical and environmental aspects.

1.Project Adhikaar: Recognizing women as the potential force for societal change by introducing to them a platform including micro-credit agencies

and electric vehicle manufacturers, thus assisting them step into the commutation as well as logistics sector. This would help getting rid of poor last mile connectivity as well as reducing pollution levels.

2.Project Kaushal: Pioneering an innovative community driven model of ‘Skill Incubation Centers’, where an entrepreneur mobilizes unemployed youth to Skill Development Centers set up under PMKVY, in exchange for a fee of Rs.500- 1,000 per person mobilized.

This year, we wanted to do our bit to combat one of the biggest problems facing the world at this instance- The Refugee Crisis.

Hence, we came up with Project Taleem, aiming to provide access to quality primary education for the refugee community.

We at Enactus recognize our position to bring a change, to explore the unexplored, to revitalize the untapped potential and to understand that the world needs us.

All we need is your support to uplift the underprivileged and to stand in solidarity with those who have been violated. Together, we can make this world a better place.

Our Approach

"I miss my school, my friends, my teachers. I want it all that back"

Pioneering a community driven model to revolutionize the primary education sphere for the refugee community, using an Active Story Based Curriculum, specifically designed for the community that also leverages the latest innovations in learning.

Here’s how our model shall work:

1. Conducting a baseline analysis of the learning levels of the children in the refugee camps.

2. Co- designing a curriculum with our NGO partners, specializing in the field of education.

3. Once the curriculum is designed, we shall identify an entrepreneur who will also be the educator from the community itself & trained in the requisite curriculum while providing the requisite financial literacy to her.

Our Approach: The Students

Since these kids have not been to school due to their forced displacement, they still have huge learning gaps.

An 8 year old child is not even able to perform basic arithmetic. To maximize the impact of our teaching methodology, we group children on the basis of their learning levels instead of their ages, thereby bringing a quantifiable impact on their learning outcomes.

What’s next?: CloudStory- a state-of-the-art educational aid

In order to foster continuity of learning among the children at the learning center & enabling our students to access content anywhere, we shall introduce ‘CloudStory’- a digital educational aid.

What we propose to do, are record digital educational content and upload it on a cloud telephony server. All the children will have to do is give a simple missed call on the central helpline number following which they shall automatically receive a free callback & they key in the ID of the book which is in physical form borrowed by them from the learning center. And then, the audio book begins playing, thereby enabling digital education without an internet connection.

The module works on a regular feature phone as well, which is especially important for a country like ours, where smartphone penetration is just 25% whereas feature phone penetration is over 90%.

This is poised to improve academic performance of our students & also reduce the drop out rates due to lack of continuity of learning.

Where your funds shall be used

Your funds shall be used to set up 3 centers initially in:

A. Kalindi Kunj

B. Rohini Sector 11

C. Old Mahavir Nagar
