I am Aranav Baid, a class XII student from Visakhapatnam and I seek INR 55,000 to help educate and provide better facilities for a government run school for blind girls located here at Sagarnagar. It is a fact that India has the largest blind/ visually impaired population in the world. Out of the 37 million in the world, 15 million are from India. There isn’t a proper support system in place for all of them. So these people need and deserve much more help and a chance to excel. I interacted with the principal of the school and he confided that there were things which needed drastic improvement.
Now, I volunteer to teach spoken english classes to the girl students. This is because once they pass out from the school (it is up to grade 10 only), a proper knowledge of english not only greatly improves their employability prospects but also opens up a plethora of job opportunities for them.Though I am able to devote a couple of hours each on Saturdays and Sundays, for the rest of the week they have no means to practice by themselves which is slowing them down. Hence, firstly, we are looking to procure audio books and build an audio library for them so that they can progress even faster, which is what we need a major portion of the money for.
Second, though there is a computer lab, most of the computers, being quite old, have pretty much broken down and money is needed to install a new set of computers and braille keyboards, especially considering how a proper knowledge of computers is so important for most careers they wish to pursue.
Lastly, the dining area in particular is in bad shape and urgent repairs are needed. Also, a few other maintenance works need to be carried out in the campus. This is why we need the final portion of the money for.
There is no greater joy than that of helping people in need. I have resolved to bring about meaningful impact into the lives of these girl students. But this will not be successful without your help. Every donation counts, no matter how little. So please help to provide a better future for them so that they can become self confident and responsible citizens. This is our collective responsibility and opportunity to do good and change lives for the better.
