Paint it Red has initiated the ‘BleedinPeace’ campaign to provide re-usable cloth pads during the unprecedented pandemic situation to rural women in India.
Due to COVID-19, the Indian government called for a state-wide lockdown limiting mobility. Only essential goods, food, and medicinal supplies have been exempted in the lockdown. Unfortunately, sanitary products are considered a non-essential good and are drastically short in supply.
‘Bleed in Peace’ is targeting to distribute at least 2,00,000 cloth pads i.e. 60000 menstrual kits along with underwear, detergent, and soap in six months across India. One kit approximately costs Rs. 210.
Only 54% women in India use menstrual products. The economic and social restrictions of the pandemic further period poverty, increasing health risks to menstruating women, especially migrant workers, daily wage earners, young mothers and transwomen.
Cloth pads, crafted with layers of leakproof materials, are a sustainable and economically more viable alternative. The tenacity of the reusable cloth pads will empower women for the entire duration of this uncertain period. The easy-dry poplin lining makes two pads sufficient for a menstrual cycle. A cloth pad can be effective for almost over four years.
We are working with over 20 ground partners across 6 states. We enable livelihood for SHGs and urban-slum dwellers by partnering up with grassroots producers of cloth pads.
In the first phase of Bleed in Peace, Paint it Red has reached 11000 women giving over 56000 cloth pads.
