Since he was 3, every 20 days, his life has depended on someone else's blood.
Geethik Sai Harsha is 14 years old. He goes to school, studies in 9th standard, and lives what looks like a normal life from the outside.
But every 20 days, without fail, he needs a blood transfusion just to stay alive.
Geethik was 3 years old when his family noticed something was wrong. Stomach pain. Fever. Tests at MGM Cancer Hospital revealed he had Thalassemia Major, a severe blood disorder where the body cannot produce healthy red blood cells on its own. Without regular transfusions, his body simply cannot survive.
For 11 years, Geethik has lived this way. Every 20 days, a transfusion. Every 20 days, borrowed time.
The only permanent cure is a Bone Marrow Transplant. A procedure where a healthy donor's stem cells replace his damaged ones, giving his body the ability to finally make healthy blood on its own. The donor is unrelated, which adds complexity and significant cost to the procedure.
His father sells snacks as a street hawker, earning a modest daily income to support a family of four. His mother is at home. His younger brother is 11, studying in 7th standard. There are no savings.
Geethik has spent more than half his life going back to the hospital every three weeks.
He is 14. He deserves to live without counting the days to his next transfusion.
