Million Sparks Foundation is a non profit organization with a mission to impact 1 million teachers by 2020. It is focused on development of "ChalkLit"—a teacher capacity building platform with bite-sized, curriculum aligned digital content and a thriving teachers community and has now also evolved into a platform allowing for other capacity building organizations to publish their content and manage its usage. We work with various state governments, and partner with other NGOs, Content Owners, and Training organizations for Capacity Building of Teachers and other administrators in the state education such as Head of Schools, Block Education Officers etc.
Chalklit has the following 3 interventions -
(a) Grade specific curriculum aligned resources that helps a teacher prepare lesson plans to transact any topic in a much better manner in their next class
(b) Multi grade multi level trainings, both academic and non-academic in nature, to improve broad conceptual and pedagogical understanding of teachers allowing personalized teaching
(c) A social platform for imparting latest updates and allow interactions with teachers and amongst them. This platform curates latest updates and best practises pertinent to teachers and helps create strategies for their classroom practice.
The ChalkLit Platform provides comprehensive and rich features to manage the Training Lifecycle for the partnering organizations. It also provides reminders and support services to help the trainees to complete the training and obtain any clarifications on any problems that they are facing in the content or in the platform.
We are raising funds for our work with states and government schools on capacity building of teachers, school administration, resource persons and the school leadership. The current training methods employed by the government largely comprise offline, in-person trainings which can be offered to less than 10% of the teachers owing to the logistics, cost, quality trainer availability, & other challenges. India has 8.6 Million in-service teachers many of which work in remote areas and like any other occupation, they too required to be trained regularly and to be connected in a community to keep them abreast with the latest content, and pedagogical approaches.
The funds collected through this campaign will be used to fund online teacher capacity building programs in Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.
We are grateful for your help!
