My name is Abhilash Tomy and I am raising funds for participating in the most epic race of the century!
You can read about me on my wiki page or on my website.
A race organised in 1968 threw up the only man to have circumnavigated the globe on a sailboat without stopping anywhere and without any assistance en route. Out of the original nine men who began the voyage, there was only one finisher after 312 days. His name was Sir Robin Knox-Johnston and the race popularly came to be known as The Voyage for Madmen.
On its 50th anniversary, the Golden Globe Race will be raced for one more time. Being the only Indian and the second Asian to have sailed around the the earth solo and non-stop I am fortunate to be the only India (and Asian) to get an invite to the race.
The Golden Globe Race is a solo, non stop, around the world race roughly following the route in the picture below.
I have already begun the construction of a boat with the help of friends. This boat is a replica of the Suhaili sailed by Sir Robin (Interestingly, the Suhaili was also built in India).
But as the race comes closer, I am looking at serious funding to be a strong contender at the finish line. I am determined to make it to the start line.
Any donation of any amount will be accepted graciously and I will acknowledge the contribution wholeheartedly.
