At some point in your student life, you would have struggled with a concept and things might have seemed impossible until a sibling or a friend came forward to help you out. Aren't we blessed and privileged to have such a support system? And we know not all children have such privilege. So, can we formalize this concept of support systems to discover and catalyze the untapped potential in those children?
We don't need an introduction to our Indian education system. Students in public institutions are much below their grade level learning. They lack the future-ready skills needed to survive in the 21st Century. India has a shortage of 1 million teachers and over 80% of our teachers already feel overburdened. Just imagine. What if these few teachers majorly teach the senior grade students, who in turn teach four of their juniors each? Won't it make students more responsible and help them grow? This Peer Teaching approach compounds the teacher's effect almost 5 times. Such a school system focused on student-driven learning is the need of the hour!
Umm, this sounds good on paper, but does it actually work?
Yes, it does! Involve has been bringing a change for the last 2 years. We have partnered with low-income schools and developed a Peer Teaching model that is practical and can be implemented easily. We train the senior students, or student leaders, who then teach their juniors, a.k.a. learners. This evidence-based approach is also backed by a plethora of global research.
Involve is one of the few organizations whose ideas for educational reforms keep students at the center & empower them. Founded by recent graduates from IIT Madras, this uniqueness, and the team’s commitment to its goal, has been recognized in numerous places. Last month we got selected as the top 30 organisations in the world for the Gratitude Network in Silicon Valley. Here is a recent media article about our work: http://bit.ly/TBIInvolve
At Involve, we hope to spearhead a revolution in education, open to sharing and collaboration, where students all over India, and perhaps beyond, are equipped with important future-ready skills and are able to learn independently.
This will be possible by leveraging the National Tutors Program, a program envisioned in the National Education Policy 2019 that talks about training senior students to teach their juniors in the school.
How will Involve use this money?
The entire amount raised in this campaign will support 10 under-resourced public schools, in Chennai and Bangalore, at INR 120,000/school through our Peer Teaching program. This will impact 1000 students. Every rupee will be utilized for students directly as our core team cost is covered by Central Square Foundation (,a leading philanthropic foundation that supports high quality education organisations) & other HNIs.
Your donation today will ensure that kids not only improve in their learning, but also go on to become leaders of tomorrow. Contribute, and don’t forget to thank your teachers/friends/siblings who have impacted your life.
And we are strong believers in the butterfly effect. So do share our campaign further in your network with 10 more people. This will play a huge role in spreading the impact of our work!
