Latest Update

Dear Supporters,

It takes commitment to relentlessly work on a social cause especially at a time when the world is reeling under the threat of coronavirus. We would like to thank you for your commitment to helping those in need during the lockdown. With your support, we have been able to distribute soap, rice, pulses/dal, cooking oil, wheat flour, tea, sugar, salt and spices among those in need. We have also distributed hand gloves and face masks to ensure the target population takes the advised precautions.

Here is the list of the target population we were able to impact-

  • 250 people from Chennai namely, migrant workers from Bihar, Jharkhand, Manipur and Orissa, urban homeless families, the LGBT community, the elderly, widows and people living with disabilities
  • 250 labourers and urban homeless in Mumbai
  • 85 construction workers in Delhi

Each Ration kit costed an approximate of INR 1080

We would like to continue reaching more and more people and bringing a smile to their faces. For that, we will request you to keep supporting us in our endeavour.

Story

With no home, no food, no income, and high level of vulnerabilities the homeless population is severely impacted by pandemic.  Neither, they have savings, social support nor being able to access health care, in the given situation how does this help them to face the new threat and survive in this catastrophe?  Social distancing and self-isolation is impossible in the spaces where homeless people live.

How can they "Stay safe, Stay Home"!?

There are 1 million urban homeless as per the last census.

Virus does not differentiate but the poor living conditions, lack of social support and less access to the information related to COVID19 can potentially contribute to more serious problems and worsen the existing challenges. Majority of the homeless suffers from the health issues due to lack of access to health, food and other basic amenities which increases the negative coping strategies making them more vulnerable and prone to be infected very easily by COVID-19.

As we know that precaution is the only prevention from the COVID-19. With your support and our effort ensure that the homeless people living in the open on street and in the shelter should get at least two meals and do not sleep hungry; or else they will be at high risk of adverse impact from the crisis.

The support will be through supplies of dry ration along with Hygiene kit to each homeless individual for two months to safeguard themselves during the outbreak and the nationwide lockdown. Disinfection of the shelter, awareness raising and general hygiene promotions and ensuring people have access to relevant and accurate information on the diseases to educate and sensitize the homeless on the prevention from COVID’19.

IGSSS strongly believe in “Leave No One behind” and through its work and action strives to reach the most needy and vulnerable communities to alleviate human suffering arising out of Pandemic. Your support will help reach the homeless in times of this crisis and able to meet the humanitarian needs with dignity by providing a lending hand for their survival. Indo Global Social Service Society (IGSSS) along with its partners will engage and coordinate with people, CSOs, local and state authorities through coordinated actions to reach the communities at high risk.

We have supported Migrant workers, Homeless families, Trans-persons, Elderly, Widows and People living with Disabilities with Dry Ration & Hygiene kits. So far we reached out to 250 families in Chennai and 85 families in Delhi. We will be reaching out to more needy families in Delhi and Mumbai.

We are responding to the #COVID19 crisis. With your support and our efforts, we are able to reach out to the homeless population which consists of daily wage laborers, migrant workers, etc. The funds which we have raised through our campaign #ShareWithHomeless are now coming into action.

?We have distributed dry ration, masks, gloves, and soaps to the homeless migrant population in Delhi and other cities.

We will be reaching out to more cities and more people in the days to come.

Continue supporting the campaign.

Kudos to the brave people who are there working on the field.

#3 (14 Apr, 2020)

The money which we have raised from your support and contribution is finally coming into action.

We have started providing relief packages to the homeless population along with other Marginalized communities.

According to experts, the impact of pandemic is going to last quite a while. This means that we have to make sure that the homeless have the necessary means to protect themselves. This can be done by ensuring that they do not sleep hungry and have access to proper hygiene kits. Our work has just started. With your continuous support, we will be reaching out to more people in different cities around the country.
