My name is Fouzia Begum, and I am writing this as a mother who refuses to give up on her little girl. My daughter, Baby Aliza Fatima Quadri, is a cheerful, playful child who filled our home with laughter. Today, that laughter has been replaced by the constant sound of ICU monitors.
Aliza was diagnosed with severe pneumonia that rapidly worsened into Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) with refractory hypoxemia. Despite advanced treatment, her tiny lungs could not cope. Doctors tried High Frequency Oscillatory Ventilation (HFOV), but her condition became critical, and she had to be placed on life-saving ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) support.
She is currently admitted in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at KIMS Hospitals, where she remains on veno-venous ECMO, mechanical ventilation, powerful IV antibiotics, and continuous life support. Every day is a battle, but she is fighting bravely.
As parents, we have exhausted every resource — emotionally, physically, and financially. The total cost of her treatment is ₹30,00,000, far beyond what we can afford. Yet, we cannot stop her treatment when there is still hope.
Behind those machines is not just a patient — she is our little girl with dreams, laughter, and a future waiting for her.
