When my little boy, Adwait was born, he filled my home with laughter so pure it made my heart ache in the best way. His chubby hands reached for me, his bright eyes full of wonder, and his giggles that I never want to stop hearing.
But something has changed. Slowly, almost subtle at first. Adwait’s energy levels slowly started to decrease each day. His giggles became less free. His cute, bright eyes, once always full of curiosity, seemed a bit, dull...
In my heart, I knew, something wasn’t right.
I took no further chances and took Adwait to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi, where the doctors did some physical checks and blood tests. Then, we waited for the results. It wasn’t that long, but my emotions were filled with uncertainty in those moments.
Shortly, doctors called us to explain the reports -
Adiwait has Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), a rare, progressive condition that affects his motor skills.
The wave of anxiety was unreal, but I held my ground. But quickly my 14 months old Adwait’s clumsy hands touched my face and he smiled at me as if he was saying that - “Mumma do not worry”
Adwait’s tiny arms, which once reached eagerly for his favourite toys, now struggle to lift even the lightest ones. Crawling has become harder, and his legs no longer kick with the same excitement.
Now, Adwait needs a ₹10 CR Drug named Zolgensma.
