I don’t have a Plan B.
Either I find the means to pay for my final year at CalArts and complete my dance major, or I watch the future I’ve fought for slip away.
I’m Achintya Bose, a dancer-actor from Mumbai. Some of you might know me from Netflix’s Yeh Ballet, where I played a ballet prodigy fighting impossible odds. Since then, I’ve worked as a dance influencer, model, and Youth Ambassador for ARDEA Foundation.
But none of this came easily. After our father walked out on us, my mom raised me alone. She rebuilt from scratch, ensured I finished school, pursued my passion, and dreamed bigger. Books were always there, music and tabla classes always paid for, even when she went hungry.
While training at Danceworx, I worked in admissions, assisted classes, and became a trainer, earning my way through every workshop. Yeh Ballet changed everything. For the first time, there was world-class training I didn’t have to pay for. Prima Ballerina Cindy Jourdain trained me, and director Sooni Taraporevala mentored me.
When I got into CalArts, one of the world’s top dance schools, I gave it everything. I’ve completed 2 years, been fast-tracked into a 3-year BFA, and kept a 4 GPA in my last 2 semesters (cumulative 3.9). Between minimum-wage jobs, rehearsals, and sleepless nights, I never stopped showing up.
Apart from my regular academics at CalArts, I have been invited to 2 very elite dance training programs. One is in Amsterdam, and the other is the Summer Immersion Program at Boston Dance Theatre. Thanks to a donor, all flight tickets are being taken care of.
Now, if we don’t raise80,114USD ie 68,89,869.76 INR, in the next few days, I won’t be able to finish my degree.
