Project Details

Generation 414 is a social enterprise selling handmade products from survivors affected by human trafficking.

Our mission is to deliver two powerful outcomes: To operate as a social enterprise practising fair trade principles and ethical production work-flow and supporting the abolishment of human trafficking.

We envision to alleviate poverty while simultaneously creating a global awareness around the issue of human trafficking and inviting its consumers to make a stand against this injustice.

Our vision is to reach, rescue and restore women and children whose lives have been negatively impacted by the sex industry through the sale of their handmade products.

The Issue

The Global Slavery Index released in June 2016 estimates 45.8 million people enslaved in the world today. About 2 million children are exploited every year in the global commercial sex trade. Women and girls make up 98% of victims of trafficking for sexual exploitation.

It includes pornography, prostitution and sex trafficking of women and children. Each year, an estimated 800,000 women and children are trafficked across international borders. The goal of this project is to improve the livelihood and increase the level of human security of the poor and vulnerable women and children in Thailand.

The Solution

Generation 414’s was set up to serve a notoriously difficult-to-reach demographic of commercially sexually exploited women by providing skills training and educational support while delivering long-term sustainable income through the business.

It provides hope and a sustainable future for people affected by human trafficking through dignified employment and personal development opportunities to women who seek an alternative to the sex industry.

Each product a consumer buys is handmade by a survivor and helps to secure their freedom and restoration. Consumers will know that their purchase will directly assist a meaningful cause that seeks to make a positive change in the world.

Impact of YOUR help

Through the sale of the handmade products, we have been able to support the provision of dignified jobs and a secure income for the survivors. This provides a better life for themselves and their children. It increases their financial security and promotes higher living standards within their communities.

With the money earned, and not having to work as a prostitute, there is an immediate improvement to both their physical and mental health. As women develop their skills, they internalise that they have value, purpose and worth. Their children are also able to return to school and have a better, brighter future.
