Food for Life,  Food for Soul

Children were fighting with dogs to grab some food thrown out in the garbage! This scene brought tears to the eyes of Srila Prabhupada, the Founder-acharya of ISKCON. Saddened by what he saw, Srila Prabhupada instructed his followers – “No one within a ten-mile radius of an ISKCON centre should go hungry”.

Why were these children fighting with dogs instead of going to school to undergo education? Extreme poverty! How can they sit in the classroom when they undergo the severe pain of hunger?

Recent incidences of deterioration of moral and ethical values have shaken the foundation of our Indian value system. The case of ‘Nirbhaya’ is a startling occurrence of such serious deterioration of values.

Poverty and moral values are two major issues that underprivileged children face today. If these two issues are addressed appropriately, we can build a bright future for them as well as a better society and nation.

ISKCON and its associates have been engaged in helping the underprivileged children circumvent the vicious cycle of poverty and illiteracy by serving them wholesome nutritious meals in the name of “Food for Life”.

In order to infuse moral values in the young minds, ISKCON has undertaken a unique value education programme in the name of “Food for Soul”.  We will publish easy-to-read illustrated ‘comic style’ books on various topics on value education such as truthfulness, honesty, duty, compassion, cleanliness, etc., and distribute it free of cost to the underprivileged children.

ISKCON’s initiative “Food for Life, Food for Soul” is designed to address the issues of poverty and morality respectively in underprivileged children. The nutritious meal distribution programme under “Food for Life” will bring underprivileged children to the school for education. The “Food for Soul” programme will add moral values to their education.

Your generous contribution will support ISKCON’s mission to provide free food and value education to underprivileged children.

Kindly take few moments to make a donation for “Food for Life, Food for Soul” and bring a ray of hope in the lives of underpriviledged children for a bright future.

Yours in the service of value education,
