These children study at Carter Road everyday - Donate to support their education!
Education is one of the most vital components that contribute to the social growth of an individual, a locality, and therefore a nation. At its most fundamental level, education is a necessity that provides basic skills such as communication, teamwork, keenness, and judgment, to perform a job in the adult world, or anywhere in fact.
60 lakh children in India are still out-of-school. Statistics have shown that 13 out of 100 students in India never attended school because it wasn’t considered necessary by families who couldn’t afford it.
That said, the solution to every problem begins with an intent.
Mrs. Mira Mamnani started the Navjot Foundation with her husband, to further the education of underprivileged children in Mumbai. They currently teach subjects like Math and Ehglish to 300 children at Carter Road, Bandra. Mira is the face of the foundation
In addition to giving them basic educational and vocational training, she has also been able to set up a network of people who donate old books, clothes, and stationery, for these little children. Every Sunday, she gives them rashan in the form of food grains. Mrs. Mamnani even makes it a point to give them frequent evening snacks after their lessons.
The Navjot Foundation
The foundation was started by retired army officer, G L Singh, back in the late 1990s. It has been more than 20 years since then. Unfortunately, due to old age, his health has deteriorated, and he is unable to continue this initiative by himself. Over the years, Mrs. Mamnani took over the activities of the foundation, and became the face of the initiative. Mrs. Mira Mamnani and her husband are retired RBI employees, who have been teaching these underprivileged kids for about a decade now. Over time, they have had more than 100 children come to them for studies.
Upon asking her about the inspiration to keep this initiative going, she says, “When I was a kid, we had a rough patch and we were not doing financially well. It only made me realize how important education is, and that fuels my thirst. All I want to do is teach them and prepare them for the world outside.”
How you can help
At present, there are about 300 students under Mrs. Mamnani. While she is extremely grateful for all the donations that people have sent for these children in the form of books, clothes, and other things, she aspires to give them much more. By providing more access to education related items, she wants to ensure that each child has a secure future ahead.
For that reason, she seeks YOUR help. Majority of the children come from low income families, and are unable to send their children to school. Therefore she appeals to all of you to take a step towards promoting education in India by providing funds with which these children can have better learning items. By making small donations, we can raise the funds needed to provide these children the education they need. You may also help further this initiative by spreading the word about this initiative by sharing their campaign on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and G+.
If we all take small steps to help, it will be one big step towards progress in society development. Please donate and share for India’s brighter future!
