The call came on August 13th, 2024. Mom had tested positive for H1N1. My heart sank as I rushed to her side in Alibag. At 66, with Parkinson's already challenging her since 2020, this new diagnosis felt like a cruel twist of fate.

A positive test for H1N1, means they have been infected with the H1N1 influenza virus, also known as swine flu. This virus is a strain of the flu virus that caused a pandemic in 2009. 

Symptoms of H1N1 are similar to those of regular flu and can include:

• fever
• cough
• sore throat
• body aches
• and fatigue

Most people recover without complications, but it can be more serious for young children, the elderly, pregnant women, and those with certain health conditions.

Autoimmune Parkinson

Autoimmune Parkinson's is a type of Parkinson's disease where the body's immune system mistakenly attacks the brain cells that are important for controlling movement. Parkinson's disease usually involves a gradual loss of these brain cells, leading to symptoms like tremors, stiffness, and balance problems.

I found her battling fever, his tremors worse than ever. The hallucinations scared me most - Mom's eyes darting around the room, seeing things that weren't there. Our quiet life in Alibag suddenly became a daily routine of hospital visits and sleepless nights.

The Weight of Responsibility

As an only child, the responsibility of care fell squarely on my shoulders. My job, once a source of pride with its humble monthly salary, now seemed painfully inadequate. The medical bills is a constant worry – lakhs spent, with doctors saying we would be needing more.

I sold my jewelry, borrowed from relatives, and applied for loans. Each decision felt like a piece of our future slipping away. Mom's dream of traveling the world faded with each passing day in the hospital.

A New Normal

Watching Mom struggle with the simplest tasks broke my heart. He who once loved his independence now needed help to eat, to walk, to live. The steroids and antibiotics seemed to help, but the doctors warned of a long road ahead - hospitalization, managing sepsis, a complete upheaval of our lives.

In quiet moments, I remember Mom's smile as he planned our imaginary world tours. Now, our world has shrunk to the four walls of a hospital room. But as I hold his hand, I know that no matter how hard this journey becomes, I'll be by his side every step of the way.

13 ऑगस्ट 2024 रोजी कॉल आला. आईची H1N1 चाचणी पॉझिटिव्ह आली होती. अलिबागमध्ये मी तिच्या कडेकडे धावलो तेव्हा माझे हृदय धस्स झाले. 66 व्या वर्षी, 2020 पासून पार्किन्सन्सने तिला आधीच आव्हान दिले होते, हे नवीन निदान नशिबाच्या क्रूर वळणासारखे वाटले.

H1N1 साठी सकारात्मक चाचणी, याचा अर्थ त्यांना H1N1 इन्फ्लूएंझा विषाणूची लागण झाली आहे, ज्याला स्वाइन फ्लू देखील म्हणतात. हा विषाणू फ्लू विषाणूचा एक प्रकार आहे ज्यामुळे 2009 मध्ये साथीचा रोग झाला.

शांत क्षणांमध्ये, मला आईचे स्मित आठवते कारण तिने आमच्या काल्पनिक जगाच्या सहलींची योजना आखली होती. आता आपलं जग हॉस्पिटलच्या खोलीच्या चार भिंतींपर्यंत संकुचित झालंय. पण जसा मी त्याचा हात धरतो, मला माहित आहे की हा प्रवास कितीही खडतर असला तरी मी प्रत्येक टप्प्यावर त्याच्या पाठीशी असेन.
