30-year-old Radhika has always been ambitious and full of life. A CA Final student, she has cleared every level except the last one. She dreams of building a stable career and giving her mother the comfortable life she deserves. But today, those dreams are on hold as she lies weak and bedridden, fighting for her life.
Her mother, Meera, has raised her alone, a single parent who has stood by her daughter through every hospital admission, every dialysis session, and every sleepless night spent in the ICU.
What troubles Radhika?
Radhika was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called Lupus Nephritis Stage 4. After two years of treatment, she recovered and got back to her normal life. But 2 years ago, the disease relapsed. Despite ongoing treatment, it progressed into Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) Stage 5, the most severe stage.
Doctors at Tatwadarsha Hospital, Hubballi, Karnataka have confirmed that a kidney transplant is the only way to save her life. Without it, her kidneys will not recover.
Her current health condition
Radhika’s body has become extremely weak. She undergoes dialysis twice a week and has been admitted to the ICU five times in the last four months. Each time, her hemoglobin levels drop dangerously low, making her breathless and faint.
Her body has stopped producing red blood cells, which causes repeated ICU admissions and blood transfusions. Constant dialysis and anemia have left her bedridden, she can no longer perform basic activities on her own and even walking became impossible for a while.

Symptoms Radhika is battling:
- Breathlessness
- Severe anemia
- Low urine output
- Very low hemoglobin levels
- Repeated infections
- Fever
- Cough and chills
Treatment she is undergoing
Radhika is currently on:
- Regular dialysis (fistula procedure completed)
- Injections and blood transfusions for low haemoglobin
- Antibiotic injections to control infections
Despite all of this, her doctors have made it clear, she urgently needs a kidney transplant. She is getting admitted to the ICU every 15 days due to breathlessness and dangerously low hemoglobin. The transplant must be done soon, and she is trying to improve her health to be fit for surgery.
A mother’s struggle
Radhika’s family is just the 2 of them - Radhika and her mother, Meera. Her mother is a retired defense employee living on a defense pension, and the only earning member of the family.
To keep her daughter alive, she has sold all her gold and silver jewelry and taken loans from friends. They’ve already spent lakhs on hospitalizations, medicines, and dialysis. But the cost of the transplant and aftercare is far beyond what she can manage.

Radhika’s dream after recovery
Even through pain and weakness, Radhika’s determination remains unshaken. She dreams of completing her CA Final exam, starting her career, and rebuilding her health with a proper diet and care after the transplant.
“She’s worked so hard to reach this point,” her mother says, “I just want to see her healthy again - smiling, studying, living.”
