Through the emergence of crowdfunding platforms in India, many people have been able to raise funds for their medical treatments, personal or social causes. The process is actually quite simple; here’s how it works

Many babies go through unforeseen medical ailments in the first few years of their lives. The cost of treatment can exceed lakhs of rupees. It becomes difficult for the parents of the child to afford the treatment. At such times, parents resort to raising funds for their child’s treatment on Impact Guru.

Here are some heartwarming stories of babies who got their surgeries in the last month through the power of crowdfunding:

  1. Newborn baby lives to see another day:

The story:

Lakshmi Sreehari and his wife Gangasaraswathi welcomed their first-born on the 1st of May, 2021. They were very excited but their excitement didn’t last long. The baby was having difficulty breathing and doctors had to admit him to the NICU. The doctors said that the baby was suffering from severe sepsis, a life-threatening infection that affects the functioning of your organs. He was also infected with pneumonia and had respiratory distress and hypotension.

The infant’s father had already taken loans for his wife’s delivery and had now run out of options. The doctor told him to arrange Rs. 9.20 lakhs for the baby’s treatment. He could not afford to pay for his baby’s treatment.

The story:

Govind cannot walk or run without support. He used to cry due to a terrible headache, he also had an unusually large head and a painful boil on his back. His parents ran from pillar to post just to understand what their child was suffering from. The doctors conducted multiple tests on Govind and informed the parents that he was suffering from Spinal Dysraphism - a disorder that affects the spine and spinal cord. The reason for the unusual size of his head was Hydrocephalus i.e. the buildup of fluid in the cavities deep within the brain.

Surgery was required to save him from a life of severe disability and possibly death. His father is a daily-wager who couldn’t afford the treatment which was approximately around Rs. 2,87,500. The parents turned to crowdfunding to raise funds for Govind’s treatment.
