Every minute a road accident happens in India!

This National Road Safety Week, let’s discuss how road accident victims were saved, as they completed their prescribed medical treatment through accident fundraising on crowdfunding websites:

Every year, over 80,000 people are killed in road accidents in India, accounting for 13% of all fatalities worldwide. The consequences of a road accident due to lack of road safety can range from being emotionally and physically distressing to downright fatal. Road accidents can lead to injuries in a big vehicle crash or a bike wreck causing broken bones, lacerations, and head and neck injuries. When people are faced with an unexpected medical emergency like road accidents, they are frequently left wondering how to pay for costly medical treatments, delaying which could be the difference between life and death for the patient.

Following are some risk factors that contribute to road accidents:

  • Speeding

  • Driving under the influence of alcohol and other psychoactive substances

  • Non-use of motorcycle helmets, seat-belts, and child restraints

  • Distracted driving

  • Unsafe road infrastructure

  • Unsafe vehicles

  • Inadequate post-crash care

  • Inadequate law enforcement of traffic laws

The ability to save a road accident victim is primarily dependent on timely medical treatment and good-quality healthcare. But the real dilemma is how to raise the required amount within the extremely short time that a healthcare emergency allows for!

According to The Elders’ UHC India Health Report, India urgently needs UHC with around 600 million people failing to access health services. Universal Health Coverage (UHC) means that everybody receives the health services they need without suffering financial hardship. As a result of lack of funds, accident victims are unable to undergo surgeries on time. Their families are overburdened by unbearable debts and financial stress. Through online crowdfunding and accident fundraising, people now have a platform to share their experiences and raise funds for medical treatments quickly by reaching out to people on social media extensively.

ImpactGuru has assisted countless road accident survivors through accident fundraising for costly surgeries and medical treatment such as surgeries, ICU support, and other treatments. ImpactGuru has helped in raising funds for various accident victims through online medical crowdfunding as can be seen below:
